Arbitrator.  For over 15 years, David Allgeyer has served as arbitrator in over 70 intellectual property and commercial disputes.  David’s intellectual property-related arbitrations have resolved disputes concerning patents, trade secrets, copyrights and trademarks in the bio-manufacturing, oil drilling, consumer product manufacturing and sales, security products, medical products, personal protection, and other industries. His commercial arbitrations have resolved contract and warranty disputes involving enterprise-wide computer systems, semi-conductor manufacturing, automotive parts manufacturing, textile manufacturing technology, corporate governance, insurance financing, insurance coverage, and other matters.

Experience.  After serving as law clerk to the United States District for the District of Minnesota, David joined the Minneapolis office of Lindquist and Vennum, where he was an associate, partner, and of counsel through 2017.  In 2018, David formed Allgeyer Law & ADR, devoted to serving as an arbitrator and mediator.

Over the past 35 years, David has represented parties in patent and other intellectual property and commercial matters throughout the United States, including patent cases in Minnesota, Texas, Illinois, and, New York, New Jersey, and California, as well as appeals to the Federal Circuit. He served as his former firm’s Litigation Department Chair and Intellectual Property Practice Group Leader.

Education.  David is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, where he served as an editor of the Minnesota Law Review.

Author/presenter.  David’s ABA Book, Arbitrating Patent Cases, a Practical Guide, was published in 2017 (available at  David has authored articles on patent arbitration and ADR, most recently Using Arbitration to Resolve Patent Disputes: The Right Thing for the Right Case, Federal Lawyer (October 2016) and Preparing for Mediation in the Patent or Technology Case, Just Resolutions E-News (May 2017).  He is a frequent lecturer and presenter on arbitration of patent and commercial matters, most recently with other ABA authors in a two-part national webcast addressed to initiating, preparing for, and effectively advocating at arbitration hearings.

Recognition.  David has been listed for several years in Best Lawyers in America, Chambers, and Super Lawyers.  He was named by Best Lawyers in America as the 2016 Minneapolis Arbitration Lawyer of the Year and 2018 Minneapolis Mediation Lawyer of the Year. He is included on the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center’s list of the World’s Leading Technology Arbitrators and Mediators.
